Knock It Off

Recently I was having a hard day and feeling a little discouraged. I was guilty of doing what we all do and I focused on what I didn’t have instead of being grateful for what I do have. Usually, when I’m having one of ‘those days’, I call one of my sisters so they can hear me complain and maybe offer me a word of advice and comfort. On this particular day I called my sister Mary. She’s always an incredible encourager and knows exactly what to say to get me back on track in my attitude, and to help me adjust my thinking. After I spent a few minutes pouring out my heart in detail and hoping she would feel my pain, she stopped and said “God just gave me a word for you! He told me to tell you to KNOCK IT OFF!” What?..Wow! That stopped me in my tracks! I actually started laughing and knew immediately what she meant. She didn’t have time to hear my complaints and I didn’t need to rehearse my problems! I’m so grateful to have someone in my life that will tell me the truth.

In Psalm 77, David was aggravated and upset at his situation, but he stopped and said “I will recount and tell aloud all the good things God has done!” It wasn’t but just a few more verses later that he started prophesying over his future. Praise stirs up power! Praise stirs up faith! It’s the best way to get God’s attention. He really is an awesome God! Sometimes you just gotta take a minute and thank Him for everything he’s doing right now! Even the things we can’t see! So whenever you’re having one of ‘those days’ and you hear yourself complaining about your problems, just stop a minute and say to yourself those 3 powerful words that my sister said to me…KNOCK IT OFF! :)

Encouraging, definitely! I recently started saying 3 powerful words myself which is SHUT UP DEVIL!!!! I say it whn i feel like complaining, or just when flesh tries to rise: especially since our mind isnt saved!!!

Wow! I love this truth! Praise will help me “knock it off” in regards to my attitude of complaint, and it will knock me off and out of that stagnant rut that my negative words and thoughts keep me in. I’ve got to make room for my God to move, and my lack of praise during difficult times can hold me back. Great blog Martha! And yes, thank God for your sis that keeps it real.

Thank you, I tend to rehearse my problems before I confess the Word. I think I need to practice confessing the Word twice as much.

WWWow, that’s just what I needed right NOW! I have felt like and have complained (inwardly) for about two days now. And, I know that murmuring is not cool (the Children of Israel could testify to that fact)! I thank you for sharing your experience. And, I will accet it as the LORD speaking to me as well, “Knock it off!!!” Praise and Glory to Jesus!!!

Thanks for sharing. It was just on yesterday evening and my wife and I were doing a word study on the word mediate. After, finding out that the root word was complain, I pondered on the connection on the two words, meditate and complain. I begin to feel guilty, as I realized that in order for me to complain, I have to allow myself to meditate on it, and the more I complain the more I’m really meditating on the complaint. Now my prayer is Lord help me to meditate on your word, and not my complaint.

It is so very easy to look around and see what others have and compare ourselves.
To be grateful and thankful for what you do have is a daily decsion. But I have found when I start to be thankful for what I have, that list always seems to out way the list of things I don’t have…..I so grateful for that. Tania Fleming
