True Leaders Are Built Not Born!

Over the years I’ve asked myself this question..is it really that important to have integrity to be a leader? I know..the obvious answer is YES, but after witnessing so many prominent leaders “fall” and continue to stay in ministry and go on as if nothing happened, I started to wonder, have our standards for true Biblical leadership diminished? I’ve heard some people say, “the Bible says to not touch the man of God”; “it’s not our place to judge”; or “it’s none of my business what my Pastor does in private.” All of these reasons sound ok, but are they really ok or are we conveniently just choosing to look the other way?

There are thousands of incredibly anointed Pastors, Ministers, and Leaders in the Body Of Christ that are full of integrity and I’m thankful for every single one of them! But still I have to ask, that with all that we have seen over the last few years, does integrity really matter to us anymore? The answer is YES! Integrity does matter! We see all throughout the scriptures the price that was ultimately paid when men and women of God chose to do things their own way, and it always led to destruction. King Solomon lost his kingdom when he disobeyed God and succumbed to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-16). The same things that still tempt all of us even today!

There are several distinct qualities that many leaders possess. Some have special creative skills. Some are extremely intellectual and have magnetic personalities. Others may be prophetic and flow in supernatural gifts. Most of the time, when people try to qualify people for leadership and look at great abilities for leaders, they look for things that can be seen. But what really matters are the things that cannot be seen, and no degree of skill or dynamics can substitute for these things. It doesn’t matter who you are on the stage, it’s who are when no one sees you that matters to God!

It’s a dangerous place when your gifts have taken you beyond what your character can handle. The scriptures are full of God’s promises for those who walk in integrity. 1 Kings 9:4-5: “And as for you, if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statutes and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever.”

Psalm 41:11-13: “My enemy will not shout in triumph over me. But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.”

Proverbs 2:6-8: “He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints.”

Psalm 2:20-21: “So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.”

God promises over and over again in His Word that He will be our shield and protector, and will give us victory if we choose integrity every time and do things His way!

I believe that great leaders are built not born! It’s entirely possible to become the great leader that God wants you to be. EPIC Worship School Of Ministry is a place where you can come and develop the God given gifts that are inside of you. Beginning January 2013, Winter classes will begin for those who desire to develop further in leadership in the areas of character, integrity, and honor. We believe God’s desire is to develop a generation of passionate leaders who are ready to unlock the God ordained purpose and potential inside of them and lead with Integrity!

    Martha,
This is a first. I’ve never left a comment for a blog of any sort, but I felt led to message you. I came to your site because for years I have felt the anointing of God in your music. I was pleased to read your blog and discover that the anointing is on your life, and not just in your song. I praise God for you stand, and plead a hedge of protection over you and your family. Keep letting God use you, and keep speaking the truth in love, no matter the consequences.

    God Bless and Keep you!

Great article. I have been someone disillusioned by all of the fallen leaders over the past years. Was waiting for some to stand up and call it what it is. “integrity issues” and “pride”. The good news is that, I have be blessed to have a leader who main character and focus is upholding his integrity thus the integrity of the ministry.

I also want to thank you Martha. You and our team ministered at our church recently and I had the honor of serving alongside. This is not my first time serving some of the well known leaders in the body of Christ like yourself. I was so touch at how you, your husband and your entire team had such a gentle spirit. Unlike many, you all came with no demands, etc. You focused seemed to be to ministerto us in a big way and that you did. Thanks for your level of integrity.

This word needs to be shouted from every rooftop and heard around the globe! As I said to a dear friend in love, “Gifts can take you where lack of character can’t keep you.”

I pray we return to passionately pursuing the face and heart of our Heavenly Father; walking and living as the Bride of Christ who is truly looking for her Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, to return.

Image will never outlast true, God developed character…from the inside out!

Thanks for such a refreshing post!

    Kim
